Easing the Sunday Scaries - 6th October 2024

Easing the Sunday Scaries

Sunday 6th October

Content notice: I talk about grief and bereavement this week.

Skip this email if you need to. Come back on a better day or I'll speak to you next week. x

And now it's October. 50% of the marketing emails in my inbox are trying to get me ready for Christmas or make plans for a great 2025.

Honestly, I've barely thought about next week let alone next year! I did try, during September, some paper planning techniques. I obviously want to buy a beautiful planner but I go inspired by this video by Rachelle in Theory to try out some DIY planning spreads before paying for a planner I'm not comfy with. You know I love my Cal Newport, so I did make space for timeblocking and I was also playing with ideas from the 12 week year. I was going to insert some sob story about how it's not working for me and I've fallen off the wagon but actually revisiting all these videos has reinspired me to give it another go. So as soon as I hit send I will dig it out again and complete another weekly plan

If you do some planning to help with your Sunday scaries, please message me and let me know how it goes.

What I'm reading

So I've known about Ryan Holiday since forever but I've never read his work. I discounted him as one of the dude bros but I listened to a Cal Newport interview with him and then listened to a couple of his podcast episodes and he has a lot of good stuff to say. The Obstacle Is The Way is a quick read and there is also a 10th anniversary version out now

What I'm listening to

Cheating slightly with this one but in between my Ryan Holiday intensive I did listen to this podcast about therapists working with women with ADHD. Key takeaway - you don't need tips and tricks to fix you to be more "neurotypical", you need to accept that you are, and always have been, enough just as you are.

What I'm thinking

In between all the Ryan Holiday listening, life has been life-ing and I've spent a lot of time reflecting on my journey with grief and my own mortality. There's a great interview with David Kessler and when you are going through the worst days of your grief, most people are struck by how somehow other people have been living through their own worst days all around you. So just to say that if the person you miss left your life last month, 20 years ago or somewhere in between. I'm sorry it happened. Yes, it still sucks, doesn't it? And I'm glad you made it through to another Sunday x

My bookshop.org list. If you buy from this list, I get a small commission but, even better, you don't contribute to any billionaire's rocket fund....

What I'm reading (bookshop.org)

And my Libro.fm link, if you sign up for a monthly subscription then I get a free book (my most favourite thing) and still no rockets!!

My list is still really small, if you want to hit reply, we can have a conversation about any of the things I share or anything else at all! I'll also use this weekly sharing to mention my coaching offerings. Any questions, just hit reply to this message

Have a lovely week and let's catch up soon x

Easing the Sunday Scaries Sunday 28th April 2024 Sheepishly resurfacing after a month hiding from the Sunday Scaries. I went for a long walk this morning and have committed to a month of showing up on social media and saying stuff (it's called the Garbage Post challenge - you have to post 100 times within 30 days) so I thought I would reappear here too. Hope your Sunday's haven't been too scary this month. Recent articles What I'm reading I bought this second hand, it arrived Saturday morning...

Easing the Sunday Scaries Sunday 17/3/24 For the first time in a long time, I don't have the Sunday Scaries. I've been reading a lot and I think I've finally worked out how to align the day job with my mission of working in social justice. It's super early days but I'm going to check in with some colleagues, see if they think my idea has legs and maybe create a bit of squad around my idea. You know I'm a huge Cal Newport fan and he has, since "So Good They Can't Ignore You"*, urged his...

Easing the Sunday Scaries 10/3/24 I almost renamed this newsletter this morning. I spent yesterday on the moors, doing a basic map reading and navigation course. It was bleak up there for a couple of hours, low cloud obscuring vision, high winds making it difficult (and very cold) to stand still. Then, the weather just changed and it turned into a glorious spring afternoon in the sunshine. I’m determined to spend more time outdoors so I think I would rename this “I talk to the trees” but, as...
