Easing the Sunday Scaries Sunday 28th April 2024 Sheepishly resurfacing after a month hiding from the Sunday Scaries. I went for a long walk this morning and have committed to a month of showing up on social media and saying stuff (it's called the Garbage Post challenge - you have to post 100 times within 30 days) so I thought I would reappear here too. Hope your Sunday's haven't been too scary this month. Recent articles What I'm reading I bought this second hand, it arrived Saturday morning...

Easing the Sunday Scaries Sunday 17/3/24 For the first time in a long time, I don't have the Sunday Scaries. I've been reading a lot and I think I've finally worked out how to align the day job with my mission of working in social justice. It's super early days but I'm going to check in with some colleagues, see if they think my idea has legs and maybe create a bit of squad around my idea. You know I'm a huge Cal Newport fan and he has, since "So Good They Can't Ignore You"*, urged his...

Easing the Sunday Scaries 10/3/24 I almost renamed this newsletter this morning. I spent yesterday on the moors, doing a basic map reading and navigation course. It was bleak up there for a couple of hours, low cloud obscuring vision, high winds making it difficult (and very cold) to stand still. Then, the weather just changed and it turned into a glorious spring afternoon in the sunshine. I’m determined to spend more time outdoors so I think I would rename this “I talk to the trees” but, as...

Easing the Sunday Scaries Sunday 3rd March 2024 Every week I seem to write something about how quickly time is passing and I get it's a bit dull and predictable BUT FLIPPIN HECK IT'S MARCH!! Like how?? I'm really noticing the lighter mornings and the snowdrops and daffodils (and tree blossom but that feels a bit early so we are going to pretend that that isn't really happening, lest we have more evidence that climate change is here) I said I would have an article about creative activism but...

Easing the Sunday Scaries Hiiiii! Sorry to miss last Sunday (you realised I didn't email you last week, didn't you?) but I was on the long drive home from a magical weekend of somatic psychology goodness and could NOT for the life of me convince my phone to load Convertkit to send an email. Last night, I went to a gig with one of my oldest friends but because I'm so rock and roll I said the gig is just down from the university library, let me get a book out on our way there. The book is about...

Easing the Sunday Scaries Sunday 11th February 2024 Just a quickie from me today as I'm reading a lovely book The Kindness Method (it was at 99p at some point this week but has now gone back up, I'm reading it on Kindle Unlimited), such a helpful reminder that we don't change by being mean to ourselves and focusing on our flaws but through being kind to ourselves and starting with our own assets. It also points out the helpfulness of being in community when we want our life to look different....

Easing the Sunday Scaries Sunday 4th February 2024 Unbelievable! There goes January. Don't let the door hit you on the way out! That means we are now on the "next month" that I referred to in all my previous emails. Eeek. Guess I better start talking about the group coaching I've got planned for the end of the month. Why group coaching? Because coaching is wonderful and powerful and transformative. But working with a group adds that extra layer of being in community. Of meeting people who are...

Easing the Sunday Scaries Sunday 28th January 2024 And there goes January, whizzing by (all 417 days of her!). Onto February next week already, soon be Christmas at this rate! This week I've been thinking about Emergent Strategy, I finally finished the book so have shared some immediate thoughts over on the blog. In a Facebook group, someone asked how to manage a project that has so many unknowns and I suggested Emergent Strategy as an approach. It got me thinking how can it be applied to the...

Easing the Sunday Scaries Sunday 21st January 2024 I did it! I finally sat down with the Emergent Strategy book and my notepad and made some notes on the ideas that really struck me. I also started reading Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hersey aka the Nap Ministry. It's currently 99p on the evil river website (not an affiliate link) And I bought Humble Consulting by Edgar H Schein. Now I possibly need to put some discipline in around seeing a book to completion before starting the next one...
